That’s silly. A beach, you argued. The tide going out—the ashes will spread.

They did not like talking-back any more than I did.

Twinkle would have them eating from his palm. Some cash and a winked word.

It was my wink I’d learned from him that put them on side. A blind eye they’d turn just this once. They watched as your screwdriver dug the plug’s sides. A plug that would not rise. You fiddled and poked. One surfer said you should wiggle more when poking. He held the tube’s bottom and a police helped too. He aimed the screwdriver to the lip of the plug and tapped with the hammer. Off it came with a puff of Twinkle’s death-dust.
